Accessibility
Everyone should be able to find a pet here, including people who are blind, deaf or disabled in other ways. This page says what we do, how we check it, and what isn't good enough yet.
What we do
- Every page works with a keyboard and a screen reader: landmarks, one main heading, a skip link, labelled controls, and the number of results read out after a search.
- Every photo has a text description built from the animal's listing, in your language. An animal without a photo gets a drawing instead, labelled as a drawing.
- Nothing on the site plays sound or video, and nothing moves on its own.
- Text can be enlarged to 200%, and pages fit a screen 320 pixels wide. Light and dark mode follow your device.
- Wherever we show a shelter's phone number, we also show its address, so you can write to it.
How we check
Before each release: automated WCAG 2.2 AA tests (axe) on every kind of page in all ten languages, in light and dark mode, at phone and desktop widths, plus measured page margins and button contrast.
Known gaps
- Photo descriptions come from the listing's facts; they do not describe what is in each photo.
- A shelter's own notes are shown in the language the shelter wrote them in.
- Many shelters in Taiwan list only a phone number and an address. You can write to the shelter at the address shown; we cannot yet pass messages on for you, or answer in Chinese.
- Translations have not yet been checked by native speakers.
- The site has not yet been tested by disabled people. We would like to hear from you.
Found a barrier? Write to hello@petnecto.com. Tell us the page and what happened; we answer in writing.
